The flagship phones from Google and Apple, Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X respectively use very different OLED displays from different manufacturers. Which one is the better one and affordable is the question now? iPhone X OLED display & Pixel 2 XL OLED display  - a must read now.

Pixel 2 XL Display:

Made by LG Display - a newcomer to the smartphone OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display business

Iphone X Display:

Apple is using Samsung OLED displays for the X's Super Retina HD display.

What is OLED?

OLED, short for "organic light-emitting diode," is a type of display technology. It differs from the more widely used LCD (liquid crystal display) tech by creating light within every individual pixel that makes up its picture, instead of requiring a separate backlighting system.

Negatives:

  • OLED displays are more prone to color-shifting.
  • And OLED is also very vulnerable to burn-in.
  • If you leave a certain image on an OLED screen for too long, you run the risk of that image being retained, or "burned into," the screen over time.
  • OLED screens paint a much more vivid picture, and the display is so bright and so captivating, it almost doesn't look real.

OLED screens are typically more expensive, and that may be part of the reason the iPhone X is predicted to cost more than $1,000

IphoneX OLED Display

  • iPhone X  - though the X doesn't pull out all of the saturation stops like Samsung's phones
  • Color Accuracy: The iPhone X display reproduction is not necessarily more accurate
  • The iPhone X has a 2,436 x 1,125 resolution OLED screen with 458 pixels per inch
