Honda to recall about 650,000 Odyssey minivans in U.S.

Honda Motor Co said on Thursday it will recall nearly 650,000 Odyssey minivans in the United States covering 2011 to 2016 model years because second-row seats may not lock in the event of a crash. Many fewer minivans will be recalled in Canada and Mexico, but Honda did not immediately have details on the number of vehicles involved. Owners in the larger recall will be notified by letter in mid-February. The parts to fix this issue will not be available until the spring, Honda said.

The first generation Odyssey was marketed in Europe as the Honda Shuttle. No injuries or crashes have been reported related to this issue, Honda’s U.S. division said. Two separate recalls will be conducted, Honda and U.S. safety regulators said. The largest involves 634,000 Odyssey minivans for model year 2011 to 2016, and a smaller one affects about 7,600 of the 2016 model year Odyssey minivans. In the smaller recall, Honda said it will notify owners in late January. The Honda Odyssey is a minivan manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, marketed worldwide, and now in its fourth & fifth generation in North America and Japan, respectively.

Honda Odyssey recalled to fix seats that could shift suddenly

A defect that could cause second-row seats in the Honda Odyssey to shift suddenly in a crash has triggered a recall involving nearly 634,000 units of the minivan. Honda told NHTSA in a defect report that it had not received any reports of injuries linked to the flaw. But the company had received 689 warranty claims as of Dec. 16. Honda Motor issued the recall for 2011 through 2016 model-year Odyssey vehicles manufactured from Aug. 17, 2010, through Oct. 1, 2015, to fix the defect.

Honda recalls 633,753 Odyssey minivans for rear seat defect

Honda Motor Co. is recalling 633,753 Odyssey minivans in the US because the second-row seats could move unexpectedly. The vehicles have a second-row seat lever that moves the outer seats forward to access the third row. Honda says the release lever may remain in an unlocked position, which could allow the seats to move unexpectedly. Honda says the problem was identified through warranty claims. There are no reports of injuries or accidents related to the issue.
