IOC Delays Decision Banning Russia From Rio Olympics
Russia’s participation in the Rio Olympics remained in the balance on Tuesday after the International Olympic Committee. They said it would ‘explore legal options’ for banning the country from the Games.
According to media reports the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will very soon decide on a possible blanket ban on Russia at the Rio Games. That would be big blow to the Russian athletes and a blow to their sporting prowess . The dope allegations have marred Russia’s sporting pride and threatens to mar careers of several champion athletes .
Russia’s track and field athletes already are banned from Rio because of systemic doping offences, except for a handful who can or have proved their innocence. CAS is due to rule on the dispute between Russia, 68 of its athletes and the governing body of world athletics over their Rio participation after the IAAF banned the country from the Rio track and field programme.
The fate of Russia’s participation in the Olympics is likely to remain unclear. It for several days after the IOC decided against a quick decision over whether to exclude the country’s athletes from the Rio Games.
Instead, after a four-hour teleconference of senior figures on its executive board. The IOC said it would wait for legal advice over whether a ban would be enforceable. Anyways the dicition is very complicated and it will be declared soon.
