Starch And Colon Cancer

Colon Cancer

Colon Cancer

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. Colon cancer cells will invade and damage healthy tissue that is near the tumor, causing many complications. Colon cancer is not necessarily the same as rectal cancer, but they often occur together in what is called colorectal cancer. Rectal cancer originates in the rectum, which is the last several inches of the large intestine, closest to the anus.

Starch colon cancer

Eating your steak with a side of potatoes and beans may be one way to reduce the colon cancer risk that comes with eating red meat — findings from a new study suggests the “resistant” starch, found in root vegetables, grains and legumes, may reverse some of the damaging effects of red meat on cells. Consuming too much alcohol, smoking and not exercising are among risk factors for colon cancer. But there is reason to think that eating resistant starch does bring such a benefit. For the study, the researchers used a supplement of starch, but resistant starch can be found in many natural foods.

Diagnosis of colon cancer

A colonoscopy is a procedure where a long, flexible tube with a camera on one end is inserted into the rectum to inspect the inside of the colon. After the barium lines the large intestine, an X-ray of the colon and rectum is taken. If a colon cancer diagnosis is made after a biopsy, doctors will often order chest x-rays, ultrasounds, or CT scans of the lungs, liver, and abdomen to see how far the cancer has spread.

Exercise

  1. Once you have made the decision to exercise, choose an activity that suits your personality – if you like the company of other people, choose an activity like a dance class or a team sport. If you prefer solitary activity, then walking or using equipment in a gym may be better for you.

  2. Get help ask for assistance from someone with an understanding of your selected activity – a trainer at your gym, the aerobic instructor – to help you prevent injury and to get the most from your workout.

  3. Go slow and steady so you don’t become disappointed by setbacks.

Treatments for colon cancer

Cancer treatment depends on the type of cancer, the stage of the cancer , age, health status, and additional personal characteristics. There is no single treatment for cancer, but the most common options for colon cancer are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
