2016 US election results – Donald Trump won

Donald Trump won the US presidential election early this morning in a stunning victory that sent shockwaves around the world. The Republican took the key swing states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio early this morning, as he marched towards the White House.
The president-elect addressed supporters at his victory party in New York City after his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton called him to concede. The Republican confounded pre-election polls by taking a series of key battleground states, including Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina, before stunningly carrying Pennsylvania, a state that had not backed a Republican for president since 1988.

Mr Trump pledged that he would be “president for all Americans” in his New York victory speech. He said he was “reaching out” to the people who had not supported him to “unify the country”. “Now it’s time to bind the wounds of division. I say to Democrats and Republicans it is time come together as one united people,” he said. “I pledge to be president for all Americans,” he said, adding: “The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.”
Mr Trump will govern with a Congress fully under Republican control. The GOP fended off a Democratic challenge in the Senate and the party also extended its grip on the House.
Trump started his victory speech by saying the following line:
“Thank you. Thank you very much, everyone. Sorry to keep you waiting. Complicated business, complicated. Thank you very much. – Donald Trump
