Versatile actor IRRFAN KHAN passed away

Irrfan Khan, one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars who had achieved considerable success in the west, has died aged 53.

He had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital on Tuesday with a colon infection and on Wednesday morning a statement was released confirming his death.

He spent his final hours “surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about,” a statement released by his family said.

The actor had spent several months last year in the United Kingdom undergoing cancer treatment.

His mother, Saeeda Begum, died four days ago on April 25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted as “Irrfan Khan’s demise is a loss to the world of cinema and theatre. He will be remembered for his versatile performances across different mediums. My thoughts are with his family, friends and admirers. May his soul rest in peace.”

Irrfan Khan’s international movie career included hits such as Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi and The Amazing Spider-Man.
