Xcel Energy recognized for innovation and advancing clean energy

When most people think of clean-technology leaders, a utility may not be the first to come to mind. At its annual awards celebration this fall, the Colorado Cleantech Industries Association recognized Xcel Energy as its High Impact Cleantech Company of the Year. This has been a transformational year for Xcel Energy one that puts Colorado and our company on the leading edge of energy policy and technology, said David Eves, president for Xcel Energy Colorado.

Solar power grows threefold

Over the past year, Xcel Energy has also expanded its solar power portfolio – just as it has built and maintained its wind power holdings to No. 1 status in the utility industry for more than a decade. The company’s solar power efforts were already well under way with multiple solar power plants operating in southern Colorado, along with a host of rooftop and community-based systems across the state.

Xcel Energy Offers Energy Saving Tips During Winter Season

With low temperatures in the teens and single digits this week in Minnesota, Xcel Energy wants to give its customers tips on how to save energy this winter. Making a few small changes in energy use habits can lead to a more comfortable home and help customers save money.

No Cost Ideas

  • Let the Sunlight in and Keep the Cold Out Open blinds to take advantage of the sun’s warmth during the day, but close them at night to insulate against the cold air outside.

  • Lower Your Thermostat During winter months, set the thermostat between 65-70 degrees while you’re home, and 58 degrees when you’re away.

  • Use Fans to Your Advantage During colder months, run ceiling fans clockwise, so the warm air near the ceiling is forced down.

  • Keep Your Oven’s Heat Where it Belongs Use your oven light or timer to avoid opening it often while you cook each time the door is opened even for just a few seconds, the temperature drops 25 degrees.

Low Cost Ideas

  • Lower Your Water Heater’s Temperature or Insulate it The proper temperature for a water heater is 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and by lowering it 10 degrees.

  • Keep Filters Clean Dirty furnace filters reduce airflow, requiring your furnace to work harder and use more energy.

  • Have your home evaluated for leaky ducts, drafts around doors and windows, fireplace dampers, and other places where air might escape.

Chippewa Falls, Xcel bring history

The city of Chippewa Falls doesn’t have any high-rise buildings or a major skyline, but as of Wednesday night it has a restored piece of history to welcome visitors downtown. This is a rich part of our corporate history, and now downtown Chippewa Falls’ history, he said. To be able to have that going forward into the future is a great thing.
